Between this post and the previous one, the alleged Prince of Pop, Michael Jackson unfortunately passed away. He was only 50, so when I heard the news on Friday morning, I was pretty surprised…
In tribute, Asami, George, Nate, Meg and I went and did some karaoke on Friday night. We only did a few Michael Jackson songs, but none of us really knew or liked his music.
When we got bored of singing Michael Jackson, Nate decided to sing “Under the Sea.” Great song.
We all laughed so hard at this poorly timed photo of George “singing” that I just had to put it online…
Nate sporting his stupid frisbee outfit. It’s so bad, it’s good.
When our time at karaoke was up, Nate went home. He had gotten invited to participate in an Ultimate Frisbee tournament up in Fukuoka the next day so he had to go sleep. Meg, Asami, George and I decided to stay out a little longer and went to Monkey Wrench for a bit.
George being creepy.
Old man George says: “Get off my lawn!”
This one turned out, okay, I guess.
On Saturday, Asami and I went to Cocowalk to do some shopping and to have lunch. There is a pretty good curry restaurant there that I hadn’t tried yet, and I’m glad I did. I would definitely go there again.
Later in the evening we went to check out the new video rental shop they just put up near my apartment. We got a few movies: Eagle Eye, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and Envy (the Jack Black / Ben Stiller comedy).
First: Eagle Eye…
This was the only movie of the three we actually got through. I liked it a lot more than I expected I would. I thought it would be just an action flick, but I was pleased with the unexpected depth. This is my favorite film of Shia LaBeouf’s. I am beginning to like his acting more and more lately. I think he’s the only thing that made Transformers 2 tolerable. I’d recommend this movie, it was pretty good.
As for The Day The Earth Stood Still… Well, I had heard it was bad. But, I like Keanu Reeves and I was a bit curious. We didn’t get very far though. Why does it seem like Keanu Reeves only has one personality in his roles? When it got to the part when he was being interviewed by a scientist:
Scientist: Are you human?
Keanu Reeves: My body is.
Scientist: Do you feel pain?
Keanu Reeves: My body does.
We had to stop it. I don’t really have much patience when it comes to stupid plot and nothing up to this point was even slightly interesting. I didn’t see the whole thing so I don’t have much right to recommend or to not recommend this movie. My philosophy is that if you didn’t watch the whole thing, you don’t know if you like it or not. So, I’ll leave it up to you.
Envy I had seen already, but we fell asleep before the end, so we only ended up watching one full movie.
Today we went to Chitosepia plaza. Tanabata is coming up soon, so everywhere we go there are tanabata trees set up. Kids write their wishes on paper and hang them on the trees. I guess they aren’t technically trees, but I don’t know the word for what they are. Anyway, the reason I’m saying all this is to show you a funny wish I found on one of them:
Translated it says: “I want to become a ninja.”
