The Last Harry Potter Movie

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

I went to see the last Harry Potter film (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2) with my parents and sister yesterday. Here’s what I thought. This review is spoiler free.

Out of all the Harry Potter films, this one had the shortest amount of source material to go from. Since the last book got split into two movies, it was already working with a smaller portion than the usual Harry Potter movie. On top of that, the second movie got a smaller portion of the book than the first. I’m not going to say anything about the first part of the movie other than it was pretty long and was mostly just set up for the second part.

While out of all the books I enjoyed the sixth one the best, but out of the movies this one was my favorite. It was cool to see the conclusion in many ways, one of them being that this is the last in a very long-spanning series. The books have been over with for four years, and now finally, the last movie is out. It’s been a decade since the first movie has come out, it’s hard to believe!

I think this movie had the best pacing, matching the tone and feel of the book very well. The movie pretty much flew by. It isn’t a short movie, but due to its great pacing it just seems to go be over with too soon (that’s a good thing, I think). This is the only Harry Potter movie that I’ve thought I would like to see a second time. To be honest, I have never been a huge fan of the movies, I just like to watch them after having read the book out of curiosity.

There are a few content cuts (even though the movie is only working with less than half of a book), but everything that was important seemed to stay intact. One person I would have liked to see get more screen-time was Severus Snape, who is one of the crucial characters in the series. He is of significant importance, but only got about fifteen minutes of screen-time. I think there were a lot of people that had large roles in the book (such as Neville Longbottom, the Weasleys and the Malfoys), but got pushed aside for the more important story.

I think this is the best of the films and recommend seeing it. It is a good ending to the series.
