So it turns out that when I called the bike shop on Saturday they had different news than I was expecting. The front fork was too damaged and needed to be replaced. The front fork with suspension would cost about the same price that the bike was worth, effectively totaling the bike. I went in to pick it up with my dad and see if there was something we could do with it at home (maybe replace the fork with a different bike). Before we left though, we decided to take a look at the bikes at the shop. They were all very nice but well out of my price range. We stopped into the bike shop 2 doors over and took a look at their selection, too.
Right when we stepped in the door I saw one that I liked and it was a much better price. It would have been cheaper to fix the one I had, but I really liked this new one. So, I bought it! I even got to ride it home. Here are some pictures I took of it after I got it home.
It’s a commuter bike, rather than my old mountain bike. It definitely rides a lot smoother on road, however I can really notice the difference having shocks makes when driving on the sidewalk. Since Saturday I’ve already ridden to work on it, putting 33 miles on it – so I’ve pretty much gotten used to the extra bumps in the road. I really like it! Guess the bike accident story had a happy ending after all. It only took four days to recover well enough to ride again, and I got a shiny new bike for the rest of the summer.
