The project I have been working on for the last four months has finally been released on the Google Play market! Version 1.0 of Anki Aniki is now available! I’m super happy that I finally finished this app (version 1 of it anyway. Development never sleeps). Anyway, without further ado I present:
I’m actually not sure if I mentioned Anki Aniki on here yet, so I’ll go over it from the beginning. Anki Aniki means “Memorization Bro” or maybe more loosely translated as “Study Buddy.” Anki Aniki is a Japanese learning application specifically designed for mastering the kanji on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (all levels). I have downloaded many similar apps from the market but none did everything I wanted them to. I took aspects I liked from the lacking ones, added some new ideas of my own, and came up with a more powerful learning tool than the other apps I tried. This was mainly to help myself learn more kanji, but I also wanted to make a fun, stylish, and easy-to-use app for everyone to enjoy.
Here are some screenshots of Anki Aniki in action:
The homescreen. There is a progress bar beneath the logo that tracks how many kanji you’ve learned and how many you’ve memorized.
The free-play screen.
Can you guess the meaning?
Learned Daily Kanji list. Critical items (kanji you get wrong in quizzes a lot) are highlighted.
The more often you correctly answer a kanji item in a quiz, the less often you will see it in quizzes. Eventually, if you get it correct enough, you won’t see it for an entire month. If you still know it when it comes around in a quiz again, it’s marked as 100% memorized. Conversely, if you get a kanji wrong a lot in a quiz, it will keep showing up again and again until you remember it!
You have to wait a full day before you get new kanji and you can take a new quiz.

I intend to add many more features to this app (especially if it proves successful). Got an Android device? Learning Japanese? Check out Anki Aniki and give it a whirl! Let me know what you think. If you like it, please recommend it to your friends! There is a free version of the app that has ads and a paid version that is ad-free for $2.99 (one-time fee). Links for downloading:
